Desert Winds Apartments holds back-to-school community event with the spirit of giving at the forefront
JACKSONVILLE, FL — On Saturday, 7/24, Desert Winds Apartments held a Back-to-School Fun Day celebration for its residents. This event was jam-packed with activities and valuable resources for attendees to take advantage of as they made their way through all the booths.
“We were so grateful for such a high level of vendor participation and the donations we received,” said Willie Conn, Senior Community Manager of Desert Winds. “Our residents had the opportunity to pick up free backpacks, school supplies, clothing, diapers, and more!”
“A wonderful singer/ukulele player entertained us throughout the afternoon, and he certainly added extra joy to what was already a special day of blessings,” said Tammy Nunnally, VP of Portfolio Operations for Envolve Communities.
Booths/organizations in attendance:
City for the Nations brought a citizenship class sign-up sheet to the event, and this organization regularly assists Desert Winds residents with test preparation and weekly ESL classes.
New Life Ministries provided the delicious cuisine! There was a cookout with hot dogs, chips, and drinks—and Damaskino (a local Mediterranean restaurant) served some tasty wraps. New Life also sponsored the clothing giveaway, provided over 300 backpacks, and set up a prayer tent for anyone in need to come visit.
Beyond 90 is a group that assists refugees after their 90-day government assistance ends. They help with finding homes, clothing, and other essentials to furnish a home.
Safe Future provided diapers and hygiene products. This is an organization that provides weekly services for pregnant women and children up to 3 years of age (such as information on child development and early learning, screenings, and referrals to community services).
All Nations Soccer League provided a free soccer clinic at the event.
